Jewel Shooting for IED: Rénée
Jewel Shooting for IED: Rénée
Jewel Design Exam session. Rénée three collections made in IED's Jewel Design Lab with three very different techniques

From Belgium

I really enjoy taking pictures for IED's Jewel Design Exams.

This is a big work made by student Rénée in exchange from Belgium. All the jewel are made with alternative materials , as requested by the actual course.

The first collection is a serie of three bracelets in soft gum

The production of the mold was a complex job that Rénée accomplished thanks to the skills of the Laboratory Technician.

The colourful gradient is a variation of material that enhances the beauty of the shape

After the still life section we went for the two floavour worn shooting.

The second collection is a classical set of silver wire patiently hand crafted

The first three pictures were shot with Focus Stacking technique, so the student could show the precise working to the exams.

Last job is a wireframe earrings with different wire colours thanks to electro plating

The presence of glass inserts forced the final set to be more "glass oriented" than usual glossy jewels.

Transparencies demand specific light settings.

Some more words on what it means to work with Jewel Design Students:

  • most of time there are only few hours to get all the shots
  • pieces are prototypes
  • There may be a lot of reflections
  • the most technical views are shot with Focus Stacking to get maximum details
  • no post processing! They get the best from the camera
